It's a sound basic concept with a fun game loop. It's really not really well optimized at all (even on the Xbox One X) atm & the content isn't even on par with PC at launch.The survival genre is a really great one, but far too many developers do the bear minimum shoving it into early access on as many platforms at they can in a bare bones state to rake in the early $$ and then take forever to flesh the game out. This game has a good foundation, really neat idea and has a fun atmosphere for sure but it's still horribly buggy, laggy and barely makes 30fps at the best of times with tonnes of pop in. So how many improvements were made in the following year until launch in 2020? Answer - not many. If you’re somehow who is a genre fan and always looking for the next challenge, there may be plenty here to enjoy, but for newcomers or more middling genre fans there are absolutely stronger and more polished examples of the genre on the system. My issue is that I don’t find much of anything about it to be very unique or inspired and truly the console controls for it are clunky and cumbersome at best. In the case of Stranded Deep I won’t discount the fact that it has some deep crafting trees and shows signs of there being quite a lot to do in it for the people who are diligent and dedicated. I just don’t tend to see many as being “somewhere in the middle”, most typically I really enjoy how they’re implemented or they drive me nuts.
